Redefining a "Whingeing Pom"...-Gabba'06 Day 3

From criticizing cliches a post ago, I 'm actually having one adorn my post's head-line....

At the beginning of the day's play, I was half-hoping England would show a LOT more fight, simply becaos it would have stopped the mindless drivel coming out of Rodney May's mouth. From being a absolute nobody a cpl of day's back, he is fast climbing the ladder of commentating notoriety.

England start at 53/3 - 4 overs and 11 runs later - England was suposedly off to a steady start, promising. rock-solid what not..and looking good....Am not sure if I had ever heard anything half-as ridicullous.

Then Pietersen gets out 14 runs later..LBW to Glenn..initial reaction from Rodney May - " That's out plumb" ...from Cricinfo - " McGrath to Pietersen, OUT, Out! A misjudgment of Gattingesque proportions from Pietersen. On a length, the ball jagged back, he had already decided to shoulder arms and the ball smacked into his back leg. It looked out before the appeal had even reached the "zat" stage and Billy Bowden agreed."

Then Hawkeye conveys the info that the pall hit Pietersen outside off-stump and that the ball would have gone way past off stump.....so immediately the "plumb" decision became a disappointing one..being ranted about for the next few minutes.....the other guy does a sanity check by reminding Rodney that it looked "definitely plumb" at real-time, but with technology's help it was obvious to us...( Cricinfo later adds "Hawkeye says it was missing off stump ... certainly didn't look like it " )

And the situation went downhill with Freddie being given out on a no-ball..tut-tut..the umpires seem to be conspiring against me..any hopes of "normal" commentating has gone out of the window ..with "stinkers", " dreadful" ringing out load all the time...

Thanks goodness..Warne's on now...Rodney's actually gushing that there's not a dull moment with him around....

Trivia for the session: Bell supposedly bats like Ashley Metcalfe ....strictly jus FYI...
Lesson for the session: What's a "Whingeing Pom"?
For starters, it is Whinging Pom...in more detail.."The term 'Whinging Pom' comes from the HUGE influx of British migrants after WW2 when many had trouble adjusting to the laid-back Australian environment and attitudes. They used to do a lot of complaining and so they earned the title of "whinging pom".Used in the context of our on-going sporting conflicts in Cricket and Rugby, the term POM is one of endearment and respect, just as the cricketing term "the old enemy" is also. - courtesy some discussion about cricket on History Channel

i also listen to the same commentary and it is downright trash!
but i enjoy the way they crib...and cricinfo is usually pretty spot on in its written cball by ball commentary. I keep both windows open simultaneously. Good experience it is...
